Should you talk to your kids about IS?

I’ve been rather shocked by the absence of media reportage on the persecution facing Christian minorities from groups like IS.

What is this? Has our media decided that we are so evolved now into the maturity of secularism that we are embarrassed of our Christian heritage? So much so that we are quite happy to overlook atrocities and stand loose from the beheadings and persecutions of Christians overseas? Silence is a kind of consent. Permission to purge and behead. I wonder, is it like, ‘oh that’s one religious fundamental against another, let them chop each other’s heads off, who cares!?’

Should Christians have any input to the shape of our society or just keep mum? (AKA: Are you with C.S.Lewis or Tolkien?)

keep church and state separate over marriage lawsI once had a gay neighbour, who proudly announced when we first met that he too wanted to be a minister, but then fell in love with a man. I appreciated and admired his candor. If we were going to be neighbours and friends, (which we did become) it had to be on ‘real’ terms. Neither of us was going to stay in the closet. But I was never going to tell him ‘oh you shouldn’t live like that’ or ‘that’s bad for you man’. The apostle Paul says ‘we are not to judge those outside the church’. So is there any place for Christians to encourage Biblical definitions and values about marriage on those outside the church?

Why Bono supports gay marriage

bono-supports-samesexmarriageThe other day a friend tagged me in Face book after posting their disappointment in Bono’s vocal support for the gay marriage vote in Ireland.

You see, I’m a big fan of the band and this leads people to often wrongly assume that I hold Bono on a pedestal or that I’m into the group beSome folk may want to question Bono’s ‘evangelical Christian’ credentials for supporting the vote to allow gay partners to be ‘married’. Others may be very glad he did support the vote and wished Christians would just keep their nose out of it.cause they're Christians. Arghhh.
